Cheapest Beef In Melbourne

I’ve been looking around for the cheapest beef meat in Melbourne that doesn’t sacrifice on quality. While chicken, lamb and pork seem to be moderating in price somewhat, beef keeps going higher. One of the most expensive items to buy is the trustee old steak. I’ve been hunting around to get a decent price for some good quality beef in Melbourne and here’s the results. The best option is to buy a whole or half side of beef from the Little Creek Cattle Company. Delivery is free and the whole side is priced currently at $13kg for everything. With quality mince costing that much, getting the best cuts for that price too is a real bargain. You do, however, have to store 60kg of meat in a chest freezer. The next option down is the half side at 30kg and $14kg, still a great price.  The other thing I like is that you are buying off a local producer. The quality is good too (from my past experience). So if you are hunkering for a good steak at a decent price, this is the way to go. I’m expecting my freezer to be filled with meat for quite some time, without costing the world!

Do You Know of Cheap Meat Elsewhere?

I’d love to hear of places you can find equivalent deals around the country. Please comment if you have any suggestions and I’ll add them in the post for other places around Australia.

This is a really cool idea and I wish we could take advantage of this kind of bulk buying. Sadly we only have 1 freezer (that we have to store everything else in), the cost of the extra freezer and electricity wouldn’t be economical for us. If they’re still around in 5 – 10 years, maybe we can do this 🙂 At the moment we buy as much as we can from Aldi, which is good for the quality and amount.

Buy some dried beans instead as a protein source. It’s cheaper.

Agreed, but sometimes it’s nice to have a steak!
